The national flag of Nepal truly stands apart: it’s the only national flag in the world with a non-rectangular shape. Its unusual silhouette is a simplified blend of the two pennants once used by the Rana dynasty, the former rulers of Nepal.
The flag uses white, red and blue. At a glance it looks like two right-angled triangles stacked tip to base, forming a stylized evergreen tree. These triangular “teeth” are edged in blue and filled with red. Inside them you’ll find two white motifs: a sun and a star accompanied by a white crescent moon.
