Messenger

The popular messaging app Facebook Messenger has its own, unique set of emojis, accessible to users both in the web version of the service and on mobile devices running iOS and Android. This exclusive collection of symbols was designed to create a recognizable and expressive visual language that helps users communicate more emotionally and vividly within the platform. As of today, the situation is as follows: the Messenger app for iOS devices uses the standard emoji set developed by Apple. This provides iPhone and iPad users with a familiar and high-quality visual style that without fuss fits into Apple's overall ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Messenger version for Android retains the use of Facebook’s proprietary emoji set, which helps preserve the brand's uniqueness and recognizability on devices with this operating system.

Messenger emoji questions

Why do these differ from the ones on my keyboard?
Messenger ships its own artwork and uses it inside the app, whatever phone you are on. Your keyboard still shows the system set, so the same character looks like two different pictures.

Do my friends see the same drawing?
Inside Messenger they do. Forward the message somewhere else and the receiving app redraws the character in its own style.
