Google

Google emoji first appeared in 2008, ushering in the era of visual communication in the digital world. The initial set consisted of only 79 emoji, but even this modest number marked a significant step in the evolution of online self-expression. Over time, Google emoji became an integral part of the Google ecosystem, widely used on Android devices and various Google platforms, such as the Gmail web interface, Google Hangouts (now Google Chat), and the ChromeOS operating system.

Google's emoji set currently carries an impressive 3,800+ different symbols. This diversity allows users to express virtually any thought, feeling, and emotion, making digital communication richer and more expressive. This large number of emoji also reflects Google's commitment to inclusivity and cultural sensitivity across the globe, offering symbols that reflect the diversity of human experience.

Google emoji: what to know

My phone shows a different picture than this page
The set here comes from the newest Google build we have on file. Older phones keep the drawings they shipped with, so open the matching version from the list below.

When do new emoji reach my device?
They travel with the system update, not with the app you type in. A character approved by Unicode this year usually lands on phones over the following one or two releases.

Can I take these pictures to another device?
Copy the emoji and it travels fine — the drawing does not. Paste it anywhere outside Google and the local font redraws it.
