New Caledonia is divided into three provinces, each with its own flag. As an overseas territory of France, the French flag was the territoryβs only official emblem until 2010. In July of that year, the New Caledonian Congress voted to fly the Kanak people's flag β the banner of the FLNKS independence movement β alongside the French flag. The New Caledonia flag emoji features three equal horizontal stripes and a yellow disc bearing a black spire emblem. The top stripe is blue, the middle stripe is red, and the bottom stripe is green.
Blue symbolizes the sky and the surrounding ocean, red stands for the blood shed by the people, and green represents the land and the communityβs ancestral ties.
