From 1943 to 1990, the cedar on the flag was shown realistically, with a brown trunk — as seen in versions registered with the WIPO and on official United Nations postcards. Under the hood this is a flag sequence, built from 🇱 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter L followed by 🇧 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter B; where that pairing is unknown, the two letters show instead.
Lebanon, officially the Lebanese Republic, sits on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, bordering Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south. Its capital is Beirut.
The flag of Lebanon features three horizontal bands — two red stripes framing a wide white stripe in the middle. Centered on the white is the iconic green cedar of Lebanon, a large tree.
