In the 1950s, Puerto Rico asked Norway’s Foreign Ministry to intervene with the Norwegian transport and shipping company Det Stavangerske Dampskibsselskap (DSD), requesting that it stop using a flag that closely resembled Puerto Rico’s own. The Flag: Puerto Rico emoji is a flag sequence made up of 🇵 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter P and 🇷 Regional Indicator Symbol Letter R; on supported platforms these combine and display as a single emoji.

The official flag of the State of Puerto Rico is very similar in appearance to the national flag of Cuba, but the stripes are changed to bold red and white. On the left (hoist) side a blue triangle contains a single white star at its center.
