In February 2019, misinformation circulated about a so-called "anti-lgbt emoji" that could be created by layering a black-and-white glyph like 🚫 over the rainbow flag. This overlay is possible with any emoji on platforms that support combining characters — it’s the same mechanism used for keycap sequences. The Rainbow Flag emoji is a ZWJ sequence combining the 🏳️ White Flag, Zero Width Joiner and 🌈 Rainbow, which display as a single emoji on supported platforms.
